Administration of LEED: the Canada Green Building Council

The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) is responsible for the LEED Canada for Homes rating system. The CaGBC is coordinating a national consensus effort to provide the industry with the tools necessary to design, build, and operate buildings that deliver high performance inside and out.

The Council's greatest strength is the diversity of its membership. The CaGBC is a balanced, consensus non-profit organization representing the entire building industry, comprising of more than 2,000 companies and organizations. Since its inception in 2002, the CaGBC has played a vital role in providing a leadership forum and a unique, integrating force for the building industry.

Members work together to develop design and construction practices, guidelines, operating practices and guidelines, policy positions, and educational tools that support sustainable design and building practices. Members also forge strategic alliances with industry and research organizations, federal government agencies, and provincial and local governments to transform the built environment.

Our mission guides our work:
Lead the transformation of the built environment to create buildings and communities that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live, work and play, through the engagement and enablement of industry and government and the support of related organizations to accelerate sustainable building and development in Canada.

A LEED® leader
As the leading organization that represents the entire building industry on environmental building matters, the CaGBC's unique perspective and leadership enable our members to effect change in the way buildings are designed, built, operated and maintained. The CaGBC is the leading national organization advancing green building practices and the only organization in Canada that offers LEED accreditation.

The LEED® Canada Green Building Rating SystemTM is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED Canada gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings' performance. LEED Canada promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality and it rewards innovation in building design.
