Project profile: Archetype House, Ontario


The Archetype sustainable design competition house "Building Blocks" is actually a pair of houses forming a duplex to be constructed on the ground of the Kortright Centre in Vaughan Ontario. All systems used in the duplex will be accessible for inspection by visitors. The two sides of the duplex are identified as House A and House B.

House A is to demonstrate best practice for sustainable house design in standard mass house construction in Toronto. The house will be conditioned year round and will bevisited with regular tours. The intent of the house is to demonstrate common energy efficiency technologies used in local housing.

House B is to demonstrate a number of innovative technologies which are not employed in mainstream in mass housing. The house will be conditioned year round and will be home to various training courses. The intent of the house is to demonstrate energy efficiency technologies which are yet commonplace in local housing.
